Unlimited: COMME DES GARÇONS is a compilation book about Comme des Garçons and its visionary founder, Rei Kawakubo, published in 2005. As editor Sanae Shimizu explains in the afterword, the book is based on reporting for two television programs: the NHK Special, "What the World Values in Her Fashion: REI KAWAKUBO and Comme des Garçons," and the Hi-Vision Special, "Fashion Revolutionary: REI KAWAKUBO and the World of Comme des Garçons." Single frames of video filmed with a Hi-Vision camera were captured and transformed into static images, which were then digitally printed.
The book combines images of collections, stores, and workshops with interviews, reflections, and commentary from various figures, including other designers (Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Walter Van Beirendonck, and others), store owners (such as Joyce Ma), Comme des Garçons staff, and Kawakubo herself.
