Good design isn't just a grown-up thing.
Good design matters, especially in the spaces our children occupy. As creatives, and as adults in general, we hold a collective responsibility to instill the importance and value of good design in the younger generations. This responsibility extends beyond just parents; it is a duty for anyone who has a hand in shaping the places where kids learn, play, and grow.
Starting early is key. The spaces children frequent during their early years contribute significantly to their development. Homes, schools, and playgrounds are obvious starting points. These places can inspire creativity, boost learning, and offer a safe space to explore. But it's not just about the spaces children inhabit; it's also about the toys they use, the books we read to them, and the objects they interact with daily, from furniture to utensils.
By showcasing examples of exceptional design in all these different areas, we emphasize the positive influence that good design can have on children's development. We aim to inspire other designers, parents, educators, and community leaders to prioritize design that enriches children's lives.
In the READING ROOM, we will feature various artists, designers, and architects who have made significant contributions to designing for children. Through their work, we will explore how innovative design can create environments that nurture and inspire young minds.
We will also invite friends from our circle to write about various topics related to art and design for children. Their insights, experiences, and ideas will add different perspectives to our discussion.
